MAP is a Buffalo-based food-justice organization working to build a more equitable local food system through urban agriculture, youth development, food access, education, and support for food entrepreneurs. This project will build on substantial internal planning completed by MAP’s staff and board while ensuring that people connected to and affected by MAP’s work can meaningfully influence its future direction.

The engagement process should center the knowledge and lived experience of youth, current and former commercial kitchen renters and food entrepreneurs, customers and program participants, neighborhood residents, community partners, staff, board members, funders, and other stakeholders. MAP is particularly interested in improving its understanding of the needs and opportunities facing kitchen renters and entrepreneurs, including support related to marketing, business development, funding opportunities, and competitions.

The consultant will recommend an accessible mix of engagement methods, which may include in-person sessions, virtual meetings, surveys, existing MAP activities, Community Ambassador outreach, youth feedback gathered during paid MAP Youth Shifts, and informal conversations. MAP expects the process to reflect anti-racist, participant-centered, accessible, and non-extractive practices.
